YTD

In plain language

If today is September and the portfolio has gained 7% since 1 January, the YTD is +7%. Useful for seeing how the current year is going, but be careful: comparing YTD figures across assets with different reference start dates can be misleading.

Technical definition

Year To Date: cumulative return from the start of the calendar year (typically 1 January) to the reference date. It is not annualised and depends heavily on the chosen start date.
